Position Summary
The Mathematics Teacher at Greensburg Junior High School provides rigorous, standards-aligned instruction in 8th grade mathematics and Algebra I to students in grade 8. The teacher designs engaging learning experiences that develop mathematical reasoning, procedural fluency, and problem-solving skills while building student confidence and mathematical identity. This position operates within a block schedule and may include co-teaching assignments in support of inclusive programming.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction and Curriculum
- Plan and deliver daily math instruction aligned to Indiana Academic Standards for Mathematics, including Algebra I standards where applicable
- Design lessons that integrate conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and real-world application across pre-algebra and algebraic content
- Implement evidence-based instructional strategies including inquiry-based tasks, mathematical discourse, and scaffolded problem-solving
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with IEPs, 504 plans, and English learners
- Utilize data from formative and summative assessments to drive instructional decisions
- Participate in co-teaching partnerships with special education staff as assigned
- Integrate technology purposefully — including graphing tools and math-specific platforms — to extend and deepen learning
Assessment and Data
- Develop, administer, and analyze a variety of formative and summative assessments
- Maintain accurate and timely grade records in the student information system
- Use ILEARN and benchmark data to inform instructional priorities
- Participate in collaborative data review and professional learning community (PLC) meetings
Classroom Environment and Culture
- Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and structured classroom environment
- Build positive relationships with students grounded in high expectations and mutual respect
- Implement Tier 1 PBIS practices and GJHS school-wide expectations consistently
- Foster a classroom culture where students take intellectual risks, embrace productive struggle, and develop as mathematical thinkers
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate actively in PLCs, department meetings, faculty meetings, and professional development
- Communicate proactively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and concerns
- Collaborate with counselors, administrators, and support staff to address the whole-child needs of students
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by the principal
Qualifications
- Valid Indiana teaching license with content area endorsement in Mathematics (grades 5–9 or 5–12)
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or closely related field
- Demonstrated knowledge of Indiana Academic Standards for Mathematics, including Algebra I
- Commitment to high expectations and equity for all students
